Mokshya Sharma
Email address: msharma@umd.edu
Affiliation: Earth, Life and Time Scholars, Neurophysiology and Biology Major, Spanish Minor.
Title of Project: Clinical Experience at the University Health Center

Decscription of Project:Mokshya worked in the pharmacy at the Health Center, took basic vital information from the patients, and worked shadowing the doctors and interacting with patients.

What were the main benefits you received from doing the project?:Mokshya was able to benefit from this project by confirming her desire to work in this type of setting. By experiencing first hand the environment that comes with being a doctor she could gain a deeper insight into the kind of work she can expect and the types of careers she might look for upon completion of her degree.

What were the main pitfalls or obstacles during the development and/or undertaking of the project?: Unfortunately, due to patient confidentiality rules, Mokshya was not able to use visual documentation of her time working. These rules also dictated what she could and could not discuss regarding her experiences working at the University Health Center.

Bei Achu
Email address: ladybei@umd.edu
Affiliation: Earth, Life and Time Scholars, Biology Major.
Title of Project: Home Health Care: The Future of Recuperative Care

Decscription of Project: In completing her project Bei shadowed nurses from the DVHHS visiting nurse service. She interacted with the patients and explored the sometimes overlooked career of working with a visiting nurse service.

What were the main benefits you received from doing the project?: Bei realized that she would enjoy working with a home health care service because she enjoyed interacting with patients who may be otherwise fairly isolated. This led her to consider entering into this or a similar field of work because she sees the benefits of working on a community based level.

What were the main pitfalls or obstacles during the development and/or undertaking of the project?: One of the biggest pitfalls of the project was in terms of the actual services. Because of the nature of the service patients are not afforded 24-hour supervision. Therefore it is sometimes difficult to fully maintain the health of the patients.

Heyfa Khenissi
Email address: hkheniss@umd.edu
Affiliation: Earth, Life and Time Scholars, Geology Major
Title of Project: Analysis of Wye House Artifacts

Decscription of Project: Heyfa analyzed, described, and labeled artifacts from Wye House in Annapolis, and entered the information into a computer-based database.

What were the main benefits you received from doing the project?: This project allowed Heyfa to recognize the precision that is necessary in archaeology but sometimes overlooked by others.

What were the main pitfalls or obstacles during the development and/or undertaking of the project?:Heyfa found a considerable amount of difficulty in analyzing certain types of artifacts, such as fragments of ceramics. It was often difficult to accurately interpret the data.
