BioKen again

Ken's Life: The Early Years

I was born in New Bedford, Mass. (former whaling capital of the world), and grew up in the suburb of Dartmouth, Mass. (no relation to the college). After attending Dartmouth High School (our band was in the 1996 Rose Bowl Parade!), I earned my Sc.B. in Biochemistry at Brown University. I completed my Ph.D. (making me *Dr.* BioKen) in Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley. While at UC Berkeley I lived in the El Cerrito hills (well, actually I lived in a house in the El Cerrito hills) with my housemates Dan (a Japanese history grad student), Greg (a mechanical engineering Ph.D student), and Charles (a chemistry Ph.D. student).

Ken's Life (or lack thereof): Now

After a year at the University of of Chicago (following a wonderful two-month overseas vacation) I moved with Dr. Craig Thompson to Philadelphia to continue my research at the University of Pennsylvania. I have since joined the CBMG faculty at The University of Maryland (Go Terps!)

Ken's Family

I have an older sister named Stacy, who teaches occupational therapy at Dominican University of California, and a younger brother Eric who is the Dean of Culinary at Baltimore International College (soon to become a campus of Stratford University. My niece Sydney just had her bat mitzvah. Where does the time go? My parents sold the house where I grew up and retired to Santa Fe in 2001.

A Long-Lost Relative?

the

Some guys in my grad school lab found this photo of Ted Kaczynski (aka The Unabomber) from when he was on the Math Department faculty at UC Berkeley. I found the similarity rather disturbing...

A Few Photos

I'm no pro with a camera - I wouldn't even call myself an amateur photographer - but my Canon AE-1 Program (20 years old, and still going strong) and I have taken a few pics of which I'm pretty proud. Wanna take a look?
