(1807 - 1882)
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born in Portland, Maine. He was a professor at Bowdoin College and Harvard College. He mostly wrote lyric poetry with themes of myth and legend. His poetry is lyrical and generally optimistic. He was also one of the first American poets to write with American themes, like the American landscape, tradition, and history.
