Climbing the Half Dome Regular North West Face.

Before starting to the Half Dome
In total five members. This shot was taken just before we headed for Half Dome. The support team was working hard at the first 6 pitches in Half Dome. We prepared enough water and food. But that turned out to be what I had thought. The fact is we did not prepared enough. As far as I know Sungho, Grim and Soohyoung was extremely stingy. I had to spend hard time in Half Dome not being able to eat enough. It was really hungry climbing.

We reached the bottom of Half Dome rock at 7 o'clock in the morning. Our origininal plan was to bivy last night here. But unfortunately in the course of approach we got lost and spend the previous night in some far-reaching place. Anyhow we could begin climbing as late as at 8 am.

Grim is working hard. This place is 6 th place, where the terrace is wide enough to bivy 5 persons. But the protection is not good enough.

In-Je was a very strong guy. Never has he showed his fatigue. He just performed his assigned work quietly, never complaining about anything. He laughed a lot whatever the situation was. Whereas to my shame I kept complaining "I'm hungry, thirsty, it's too hot..." something like that.

At six o'clock in the morning I hurried up climbing the 12th pitch.
Chimney climbing. But I at last turned around the upper part of chimney because there was no protection. I selected the slightly hard but well protected crack.

At the popular Thank God Ledge! Thank God Ledge is seen on the left side of picture. The width of ledge was just about 30cm.
When I was crawling across this ledge, what I just could see was the mixture of rock and sky. It was so impressive that even up to now I can recall it. The dizziness, color, heat and so on....everything mixed and I think I had seen God there.
The hawk was hovering below this altitude.

At the top of Half Dome. But the top was so desolate. The end of our whatever the desperate goal might be like this. In this manner mountain conveys its tacit message to us. Anyhow, everybody was happy. Especially, Soohyoung was happiest.
