Joseph Oakley was born on 13 April 1759.1 He was the son of Joseph Oakley and Phebe Hunt. (In Horne's Oakley Genealogy his birth date is given as 13 April 1754).2

Joseph Oakley married Hannah Farrington, daughter of Benjamin Farrington and Susanna Tompkins, about 1776.3

Joseph Oakley died on 2 August 1838 at age 79.1
