Tompkins and Catherine (?), on 21 June 1888 at 7 Harmon Street, White Plains, Westchester County, New York.2,8,4 John Herbert DeVoe and Edith Edna Tompkins lived at 5 Harmon Street, White Plains, Westchester County, New York, beginning about 1895, in a house built by his father.4

In 1938, on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary, a newspaper article included the following information about Mr. and Mrs. J. Herbert DeVoe: They were active members of the Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church. J. Herbert had been affiliated with the White Plains Council, No. 20, Junior Order United American Mechanics since 1892, and had been the treasurer for the past 32 years. At one time he had also been treasurer of the White Plains Board of Education.4
John Herbert DeVoe appears in a family photograph possibly taken at the time of his and his wife's fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1938.
