MILES OAKLEY, son of John Oakley, was born in Oakley Grove, in the Parish of Oakley, England, July 15, 1645, died in the Borough Town of Westchester, May 16, 1682; He landed in Boston with his father and brother Thomas, 1651; Married fourth, in Great Neck, Long Island, 1669, Mary, daughter of Captain John and Bridget (who, at the time of her daughter's marriage was the wife of Magistrate Edward Waters) Wilmot, who died about 1698; It is said that he was the first mayor of the Borough Town of Westchester, 1682; Mrs. Hans Brunner of Trenton, New Jersey had a copy of the inscription from the long lost grave of Miles Oakley, supposed to have been in St. Peter's Episcopal Churchyard, Westchester, copied by Gilbert Willett and B. Ferris: "Beneath this Stone Lie the Remains of Miles Oakley, born in Oakley Grove, in the Parish of Oakley, England Fifteenth of July 1615 (part of the 4 had weathered away), Died in the Borough Town of Westchester, May, 1682"; Resided in Great Neck, Long Island and Westchester, New York; Letters of Administration were granted to his widow Mary, November 13, 1682; Issue:

MILES OAKLEY, son of Miles (1) and Mary (Wilmot) Oakley; b Westchester, 24 Dec 1671; d 1743; m 1694, Mercy, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Cromwell) Gardner; he was a miller; vestryman, St. Peter's Church, Westchester, 1709; alderman, 1719; president of the Board of Trustees, 1720, and mayor, 1730 - 32. In 1735 he was residing in Harlem; resided in Westchester and Harlem, NY. Issue: 8. Miles [oldest child]
He married second, 1724, Elizabeth, daughter of John Barlow, and widow of Jerimiah Fowler, who died a year previous.
He married third, Hannah, daughter of Joseph and Ann (Budd) Horton, and widow of Thomas Robinson.
