Title of Project: Clinical Experience at the University Health Center

Decscription of Project: Mission:The University Health Center provides high quality, cost effective health care and wellness programs. In order to promote health and academic success. She worked with patients, handed out medications, prepared medical charts, shadowed doctors, ect...

What were the main benefits you received from doing the project?: Helped her understand the challenges of working in the medical field. She gained hands on experience, as well as patient exposure.

What were the main pitfalls or obstacles during the development and/or undertaking of the project?: Patient confidentiality, we were not allowed to talk to any one about what we did (Plan B & birth control). Also interacting with patients daily while being a student.

Title of Project: Repair Proteins in Cancer Cells

Decscription of Project: Worked at NIH to help determine the amount of DNA repair proteins certain cancerous cells produce. He was trying to help find a treatment for cancer with less harmfully side effects.

What were the main benefits you received from doing the project?: Helped him get actual experience working in a true professional lab environment at the National Institute of Health. Got to help on a world wide problem with a group of professionals in the field.

What were the main pitfalls or obstacles during the development and/or undertaking of the project?: The lab work was very meticulous and precise. It took a lot of time and trials to successfully conduct the experiments he had to do.

Title of Project: Shock Trauma Center & OR

Decscription of Project: She was a volunteer in shock trauma and the OR. Her primary job was to assist the nurses and technicians in restocking. She also helped maintain and clean the OR rooms. On down time see was able to sit in a view interesting trauma cases.

What were the main benefits you received from doing the project?: She was able to learn a lot about how OR and trauma centers a run. From just talking to the doctors and nurses she was able to learn a lot about the field. During cases she was able to see what real doctors did in different situations.

What were the main pitfalls or obstacles during the development and/or undertaking of the project?: The hardest thing was not being able to be an actual part of the team, she could only observe. She could not have any direct contact with the patients.
