Acatenango volcano from La Soledad. |

Sight
with the volcano behind us. |

This
the place where the climb begins. Both pictures show the same field
in January...

...and
July.

At
the beginning vegetation is dense and wide leaf plants are abundant.

After
waking by a dense forest, we arrive to a pine tree forest. This an
ideal place to rest and eat something.

Way
towards the top. |

When
the pine tree forest is finishing, the soil is sandy and there are less
trees. The crater is at the end of this path.

Acatenango
volcano has two summits, the crater is between them both. The
path of the previous picture appears to the right. At this points we
have
started the climb to the 'plato' which is the highest summit.

To
the end of the road we'll have reach our goal. The soil is completely
sandy. Each step must be steady in order to avoid going back. |

Once
in the top the sight is fascinating. This is a long exposure
photograph.
You can see Antigua Guatemala (bottom) and Guatemala city (center).

A
clear sky at dawn is incredible. It is possible to see some volcanoes
of
the west part of the country, including Tajumulco volcano (between the
center
and the right).

Fuego
volcano also offers a beautiful sight. |
