Víboras, Chingo and Quezaltepeque volcanoes

Easter 2002. The main purpose of the trip was for Eduardo to complete 36 out of 37 official volcanoes of Guatemala. In my case that was the second time I was at those places.  Víboras volcano was the first one I climbed with the Asociación de Andinismo de Guatemala. These volcanoes are located at the East part of the country. Chingo volcano is exactly on the border between Guatemala and El Salvador. This has been the trip in which transportation was done by "asking for ride". In part, this was due to the very few buses available during that holiday. It is very exciting to travel such a way. You never know what kind of vehicle will make a stop in the road to help three poor travelers! The last ride, the one that would take us to Quezaltepeque town was performed by a small cattle truck. Careful with leaning on the railing!

The beginning, Víboras volcano.
During summer it is really hot. In the background we see the Chingo volcano.

End of the trip at Esquipulas temple. Eduardo, Raúl and I.
With the temple in front of us, the top of Quezaltepeque volcano (between the center and the right border) is seen as a small peak. It was approximately a 12 Km hike.
