Todos Santos Cuchumatán

The first days of November 1998 hurricane Mitch hit part of Central America. Just those days we were traveling by the West of Guatemala in a trip toward the town of Todos Santos Cuchumatán, located in Huehuetenango. On November 1st, it is celebrated the "día de los santos" (or day of the dead ones) at Guatemala and other countries of Latin America. Particularly, that day the town of Todos Santos has its "feria titular" (official fair). The weather was rainy due to hurricane. Despite of that, I had the opportunity to visit Huehuetenango, Zaculeu ruins and Todos Santos town. It is worth mentioning the presence of lots of tourists at that place. In fact, in the way back, the bus passengers were almost all tourists!

Path to Todos Santos early in the morning.

I took these pictures from the back side of the truck we were at. We didn't find a bus that day, so we went as cargo in the rear part of a truck.

Eduardo y Sina. Grabbing the railing and covered by a canvas. So was all the people at the truck. By then I was able to found an empty space on the floor to sit down.

It was cold and rainy. Can you imagine how that donkey was?

Zaculeu ruins. We got there at sunset. The pictures below are long exposure ones, taken when it was already dark.

By the end of the day we were really tired, as much for the trip as for the party we organized the previous night. We barely had slept.

The end at Eduardo's grandmother's house, Huehuetenango.

It seems that my hand covered Eduardo's face...
