Learning to Dance. The Best Teacher.
Growing up I always really wanted to learn to dance. It was something that I always had watched my grandparents do at family get togethers, and I always envied the way they could dance to almost anything. They could tango, swing, waltz, and they even knew how to salsa dance. That is right they could really salsa in their younger days. Later in life they also learned to two step and line dance, they even took ballroom dancing classes for a little while.
Now it gets kind of sad, because my grandparents can't dance together much anymore. My grandmother has lost her ability to really balance and has several falls so she really isn't good up on her feet. Not to mention that her legs are having circulation problems and so dancing is really out of the question.
Recently, realizing that my grandfather was in need of a dance partner, I thought it would be nice if I asked him to teach me how to dance. Well, you really should have seen his face light up, it was really a sight to see. He was totally thrilled to have me accompany him on the dance floor and he taught me to salsa which was really a lot of fun. What a completely sexy dance. He also began to teach me how to tango but I am afraid I wasn't very good at that dance. A few weeks ago he took grandma and I out to go line dancing. Grandma didn't dance, but I think that she really enjoyed watching us on the dance floor and of course listening to the music, which she is absolutely crazy about.
Well, I am really not sure that dancing is my thing, but I really know that trying to teach me how to dance is putting a spark back in my grandfather, so I know that it would break his heart if I stopped. I am not sure that I will get any better, and dancing with a bunch of old folks is really not my idea of a swinging evening, but I will keep trying as long as my grandfather is willing to teach me, after all who knows maybe I will be the next Ginger Rogers, you can never tell.
