giving away cars for red cross

Fortunately for me, I just got a promotion at my job. Sure I only work part time with school and everything, but it is nice to have a few extra dollars to spend. For the most part, my schooling is paid for and even my living expenses, I got some scholarships and my parents are paying for some, so I am doing okay. Lately my car has been giving me a few headaches and I have been looking into getting a new one. Well, not actually a new car, but a new preowned vehicle with a few less miles on it then my current car. Anyway, I went shopping around and I found a great car for a great price at a local auction house, a friend of mine here on campus had told me about. The auction was really a lot of fun and I got a good deal on a 2004 Saturn. I have always heard that Saturns get good gas mileage and that they are very low maintenance so I figured it was a good purchase. Well, originally I thought I would just trade in my old car when I bought the new one at a dealership, but since I bought my new car at the auction, there was no trading it in. I thought about selling it privately, but I know that I really wouldn't make very much on it anyway. Then a friend told be about cars for red cross, a program by which you donate your car to charity and then they sell it and the proceeds go into the Red Cross fund to help those in need. I thought that sounded like a great idea, so I called them and they took my car off my hands. It is nice to know that someone will get a good deal on my old car, while other's will get the money from the deal and some good help when they are in need. The Red Cross is an excellent organization and helps people from all over to get back on their feet in times of real crisis. I know that they helped a family in our neighborhood when their house burned down, leaving them with nothing. It is nice to know that there is a good place to donate money or goods to that helps people when they are down and out. You hope you don't ever need their help, but it is nice to know that if you do they are there.
