Taking advantage of parenting resources
Parenting has changed a lot in recent years, as kids are being exposed to more and more information and access to more and more at younger and younger ages. Knowing what to allow your child to be exposed to when is one of the biggest parenting issues on the table for parents these days. One of the best parenting resources we have available to us is the internet. The internet is a great way to get the latest information from around the globe on parenting skills and the new things that are out there, but the internet is also one of the biggest issues in parenting because when it is functioning as a resource it serves a great purpose and is extremely useful, but when it is functioning as a pathway of communication and information for our children. It takes some strong parenting skills to keep our children on the right path with using the internet. There is spyware that is available that you can download off the internet and onto your computer that they can't see. Through this you can see what sites they are accessing and where they are going on the web. You can also see there online chat and access their passwords to their accounts on my space, my yearbook, facebook, and all the other sites that the kids get into online conversations on. My personal suggestion is that you make them list themselves as private. This basically means that they need to approve who can look at the information on their page, but be careful, the kids will allow people they don't know in there if they just ask. Also, teach your kids not to put personal information about themselves on there such as addy, even town, phone number, etc. It is important to keep as much information about yourself off there as possible. Another big help in monitoring internet usage is keeping your computer in what I like to call a family use room. Our computers are in our dining room, which insures that there is enough traffic through that you never know who is walking by and seeing what you are doing. If you are still concerned about what your kids are doing, then get online, create a bogus account and start chatting with your own kids. Learn the terminology and see if they will let you in to see their page without knowing who you are. This is also a good way to find out what information they will give away to a total stranger. Being aware of the potential issues will make you a better informed parent and will allow you to keep your kids safe!

A Good Night's Sleep
I just got the best night's sleep I have ever gotten. I used to wake up with aches and pains and feeling tired. It really seemed like maybe I was having some sort of health issue, but then a friend of mine suggested that I check out some adjustable beds and what a difference it made. At first I was just looking, but when I found out how well made they were with a slat base and mattresses that were made to my body type, height and weight I really started considering it. I figured that having a bed made just for me had to improve my chances of getting a better night's sleep. Then I was thinking for this type of bed, it was probably going to cost me a lot of money and so I began shopping around and comparing, and the price was really reasonable compared to that of conventional beds, so I thought why not give it a try. I wanted to see if I couldn't get a good night's rest, and well when it arrived I was anxious to try it out. It felt really good from the moment I laid on it, and the sleep I got that night was incredible. Now I find that not only do I wake up more well rested, but I also find that I don't need as much sleep. I find that after about 6 hours I wake up fully refreshed and rested. I used to sleep for 8 -10 hours a night and still didn't feel rested. I have honestly never felt so good. When I was talking to my mother about it, I told her that she and my father have to get a bed like this. They can even make both sides adjustable to the individual, so my father and mother will each experience the same good night's rest even though their needs may be different. This is what makes buying a customized mattresses so attractive.
If you find that you are not sleeping well, experience insomnia or other sleep issues, don't hesitate to look into buying one of these beds. They are really great, and you will sleep like a baby on them, I promise.

Learning to Dance. The Best Teacher.
Growing up I always really wanted to learn to dance. It was something that I always had watched my grandparents do at family get togethers, and I always envied the way they could dance to almost anything. They could tango, swing, waltz, and they even knew how to salsa dance. That is right they could really salsa in their younger days. Later in life they also learned to two step and line dance, they even took ballroom dancing classes for a little while.
Now it gets kind of sad, because my grandparents can't dance together much anymore. My grandmother has lost her ability to really balance and has several falls so she really isn't good up on her feet. Not to mention that her legs are having circulation problems and so dancing is really out of the question.
Recently, realizing that my grandfather was in need of a dance partner, I thought it would be nice if I asked him to teach me how to dance. Well, you really should have seen his face light up, it was really a sight to see. He was totally thrilled to have me accompany him on the dance floor and he taught me to salsa which was really a lot of fun. What a completely sexy dance. He also began to teach me how to tango but I am afraid I wasn't very good at that dance. A few weeks ago he took grandma and I out to go line dancing. Grandma didn't dance, but I think that she really enjoyed watching us on the dance floor and of course listening to the music, which she is absolutely crazy about.
Well, I am really not sure that dancing is my thing, but I really know that trying to teach me how to dance is putting a spark back in my grandfather, so I know that it would break his heart if I stopped. I am not sure that I will get any better, and dancing with a bunch of old folks is really not my idea of a swinging evening, but I will keep trying as long as my grandfather is willing to teach me, after all who knows maybe I will be the next Ginger Rogers, you can never tell.

bathroom taps
We bought our house 10 years ago and we have been remodeling ever since. The very first thing we remodeled was the kitchen because I just couldn't stand the old fixtures and appliances in it. Well, my husband is not quite the handy man, so it too almost a year to complete, but I was just happy to have a nice new kitchen and had kind of been ignoring all the other work that the house needed because of it. We went on to redo the living room, den, dining room, bedrooms, and basement. We are finally down to just needing to redo the bathrooms, but I have a large set of requirements, especially for the master bath which are driving my husband a little batty. We started by going to pick out the tub that I wanted, but I really wanted a bath tub that was really large. I love to soak in the tub and I really wanted a nice one. We picked out a sink and a commode and some gorgeous tiles for the wall and floor. I guess the ones I picked must have been really expensive, because when it came time to buy the taps and towel rails, my husband really started drawing the line on how much I could spend. I really never realized that bathroom taps could be so expensive, after all they seemed really plain, but my husband said that is how much they cost. After shopping for all the stuff for our new bathroom I was really excited and tried to envision what the bathroom would look like upon completion. I have to be honest about it, I love a beautiful bathroom. I know that sounds really strange, but I love to accessorize a bathroom with beautiful towels, rugs, shower curtains and pictures. When we went to bed that night we talked a little bit about our new bathroom, and my husband finally seemed resigned to the fact that this is what I wanted. When all was said and done and we went to sleep, I had a dream about soaking in my new bathtub and how beautiful the bathroom will look when the remodeling is complete. I honestly envisioned every single thing that we bought in that new bathroom down to the exact same fixtures. Now I am just afraid that when the bathroom is actually completed, that it won't live up to what I saw in my dream, and I hope I am not disappointed with the finished product.

health insurance plans
It happens to the best of us. Sometimes we're just trying to help someone else out. Or maybe we find ourselves around the wrong people in the wrong place at the wrong time and we end up paying the price. No, I'm not talking about going to jail; I'm talking about getting sick.
We get sick for many different reasons. College students at big universities seem to get particularly sick, especially near the beginning of the year and especially those who live in the dorms. It could be because there are so many germs floating around (especially in public bathrooms...yuck) and so many people from different places attend, bringing their own strains of viruses.
Either way it goes, college students would be wise to get health insurance. Some schools offer their very own health insurance plans for students that are very inexpensive and are included in tuition. If you don't have school insurance available to you or you'd really prefer not to utilize those school services, consider local and state insurance plans. For instance, if you stay in Pennsylvania, don't got for any insurance in Florida until you've checked out available Pennsylvania health insurance plans. Though it certainly wouldn't hurt to have back up Florida health insurance options, don't discount something close to home.
If that fails, check out other health options. Medicaid and Medicare are government health care programs available to low-income people (although one of them is exclusively for senior citizens). Check if your job offers some sort of health benefits. In some cases, you can qualify for something like Kidcare, and some Public Aid programs guarantee you health care coverage as long as you're in school.
When I first started school, I opted for the school insurance because it seemed to make more sense to have it than not to. It was also a part of my tuition so I didn't pay for it out of pocket. Turned out that I was going to need that insurance a few times over the school year. I was staying in the dorms so of course if one person got sick the entire floor and anyone who visited got sick as well. It was almost as if the sicknesses waited at the door for us. The point is, I felt bad for the people who didn't have health insurance because they weren't able to go to the doctor like I could. They had to stay home and hope Nyquil and chicken noodle soup would help them.
You don't have to go through that. You can easily avoid potential pain and suffering by simply researching and getting yourself some good health insurance. You'll be glad you did.

Microsoft certification
I just got off the phone with a friend from back home who I haven't seen in about 6 months. He didn't have the money to go away to school and instead decided to keep living at home with his parents while taking a few classes at the local community college and this allowed him to keep working his job. He has finally decided on a career path and he has decided the computer industry is for him. He has decided to go to school and get his Microsoft Certification and a local company has offered him a job if he goes through this program and successfully completes it. I told him I really think this is a great opportunity for him, but I had never heard of Microsoft Certification before, and I was wondering if he could explain to me a little bit more about it.
He said that Microsoft certification is a program that is specially designed for different professionals to learn more about working with Microsoft technology and find better ways to use it in their different industries. He said that when you earn Microsoft Certification, it shows people your level of expertise with Microsoft products and platforms and validates your real world skills and job related experiences. He said that being Microsoft certified is a great way to stay up to speed on the latest in Microsoft Technology and that the program does its best to update so it stays relevant. He says that with all his computer experience it should be a breeze to complete the different levels and get his certificate in no time at all.
He seems really excited about this program and about the new road he is taking in his life. We talked a little bit about the people that I know and how and what they are doing and what is going on back home. We made some small talk and I congratulated him again on his new and exciting adventure and told him that I wished him the best. We agreed to hook up the next time I was home on break, but I don't know whether that will actually happen or not, but it was nice to hear a little news from home and I am really glad that his is in a good place, I always felt bad for him that he couldn't get up the money to go away to school, he was always a nice guy.

travel insurance
When I agreed to go to the convention in Ontario this weekend, I should have known better than to trust my parents. Sure, I'm already in college and, to the best of my knowledge, pretty decided in my major. But my parents seem to not be able to believe that their darling child is completely uninterested in the insurance business. They are both insurance agents and love their jobs. Me, well, not so much...
I really only went to the convention because they practically begged me to go. I guess they were hoping that I would be converted into an insurance junkie in a “Jehovah's Witness on the Doorstep” sort of way. Maybe they thought I'd discover some latent longing to be an employee at some reputable insurance company like Blue Cross Blue Shield or Allstate.
When I got to the convention, I felt immediately out of the place. There were actually insurance booths set up all over the place, offering free pens and special Ontario insurance quotes. I honestly didn't know how Ontario's insurance quotes were any different from anybody elses, but I knew better than to ask.
My group was ushered into a seminar-type meeting room and it became obvious that I'd fallen victim to the attack of the vicious Insurance Lecture. All too son, a preppy guy walked (more like cavorted) to the front of the room and began explaining the wonderful world of insurance to this group of overly excited people. He started to educate us on the many types of insurance available. Did you know there's such a thing as travel insurance? I spent some time pondering the importance of such a thing as travel insurance.
After a grueling hour of that, we were set loose to presumably attack the booths like a pack of hungry dogs . I surveyed the rows of booths, seeing some that were undeserving targets of silent contempt. I didn't want to come off as a jerk, though, so I feigned politeness and hid my laughs as I passed the table for the Ontario Financial Services Commission. Nothing was actually funny about the commission except for its very existence.
Granted the convention was probably very nice for those who like that sort of thing. I just am not one of those people. But the little trip to Ontario was a nice little vacation, even if I was being fed more about insurance than I'll ever want or need to know.

crredit card counseling
Right now we are going through a hard time economically. Everyone is being hit hard rich or poor people are cutting back on things to be able to buy what we need. Gas is sky high and has caused people to drive less and carpool more or to find another form of transportation to work or to school. Groceries are another thing that have increased greatly in price over especially the past few months. A gallon of milk now costs over four dollars and my family alone goes through about three to four gallons a week. It seems like people everywhere have been cutting back on vacations and extras in order to pay for their necessities. But some people are in a situation where they have already cut back and cutting back even more just isn't going to cut it. I saw on the news the other day that people are getting more and more credit cards to pay for their needs like food and clothing. This can be dangerous in the long run, because if they don't have the money to pay these loans or credit card balances back monthly they could end up with a lot of debt and hurt their credit.
I learned about credit card counseling in my personal financial planning class. Obviously you do not want to get to the point where you are in need of this service; however with the economy the way it is today, it is inevitable that this service will become more and more popular in the future (sadly). A lot of people put off debt and it just keeps piling up until they are way over their heads and have, or may soon ruin their credit. With a service like this, a professional can help you climb out f debt the smartest way possible and also help you to rebuild your credit. So while this service is definitely one that many people fear and try to avoid, sometimes it is your only hope. We learned about people who try to get out of financial messes themselves and end up deeper in debt and it seems like getting help from a professional is the best way to go. They know their way around financial small print and can help you to negotiate things like lower interest rates or payment plans. So while I seems dreadful and maybe embarrassing to reach out for help in a situation like this one, it may be in your best interest to do so.

pbx technology
In a recent review of the latest technology trends I found myself looking into a new and less expensive phone service. The company claimed to offer both voip and pbx technology, so I thought it a wise idea to investigate each of these things and make an informed decision. Short for private branch exchange, a private telephone network used within an enterprise. Users of the PBX technology share a certain number of outside lines for making telephone calls external to the PBX.
I searched the internet asking the question, what is the difference between an IP PBX and VoIP box? And found a website about voip telephony news that said essentially they are the same, as both provide call control and telephone switching software. The VoIP boxes tend to be more plug-and-play and are for small and midsized businesses. They are based on Open Standards and offer connection to ISDN or analog fixed line networks.
Most medium-sized and larger companies use a PBX because it's much less expensive than connecting an external telephone line to every telephone in the organization. In addition, it's easier to call someone within a PBX because the number you need to dial is typically just 3 or 4 digits.
A new variation on the PBX theme is the centrex, which is a PBX with all switching occurring at a local telephone office instead of at the company's premises.
Voice-over-Internet protocol (voip) is a protocol optimized for the transmission of voice through the Internet or other packet-switched networks. VoIP is often used abstractly to refer to the actual transmission of voice (rather than the protocol implementing it). This latter concept is also referred to as IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband, broadband telephony, and broadband phone. This is a better more cost effective service to be used by the individual and the small business owner.
Both of these services are said to work just as well as traditional phone lines and can greatly reduce the amount you are paying in phone bills each month. For the most part you pay one low monthly fee and included in the deal are voice mail, call forward, call waiting, etc. plus there is no additional fees for long distance involved, slight charges do apply to international calling. This is overall the best deal for the dollar. Whether you are running a big business or are looking for a new home phone service, be sure to check into these services as they can save you a lot of money without giving up the quality of service you currently enjoy.
