I attended a class of my roommate, her Psychology 100 lecture taught by Dr. Capo.
This class is located in the basement of the H.J. Patterson building. I liked going
to a lecture of a class that I am not currently enrolled in because I got a chance to
see a class that I might be considering in the future. During this lecture the professor
taught about the perceptual development in humans and Piaget's "Stages of Life".
I found these to be very interesting subjects. The development of perception of
infants at different ages for example two months or six months. I liked learning
that babies cannot differentiate colors or space (they have no depth perception).
I think it was most certainly a great experience to sit in on another subject's lecture.
September 7, 2005 I participated in the campus blood drive event at LaPlata Hall this past September.
This was a smaller scale blood drive than what I'm am used to but I found out this
was due to the many donations that occur here on campus. After I signed up I sat
in the small waiting room watching Spiderman 2 until my number was called.
At that point I was in the exam room and my blood was tested for iron levels,
which I almost did not pass, a second test confirmed I was capable to donate.
After the lengthy question phase was complete I was taken into the donating area.
After I finished giving blood, the friendly volunteer staff gave me pretzels and water.
I am currently able to donate again and hope to do so soon.
November 8, 2005
On Tuesday November 8th in the CCC the International Studies students presented
a Cultural Extravaganza. I enjoyed this event greatly. It reminded me a lot of high school fairs.
There were many presentations such as origami pigs, Jewish dance and explanation
of sacred prayer rituals, Indian dance and clothing, a Celtic poem, a French song,
a Spanish song, and facts about the student's cultures. I really enjoyed all the diversity
included in this event. I did not know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised when
I walked in and saw all the different decorations, which included many different country flags.
There was a really interesting a Capella singing group called Anokha that performed a Beatles song
and a traditional song in Sanskrit. At the end a variety of cultural food was available to the guests.
The first look fair was a great experience for me. Even though many clubs were not present,
the ones that were available were friendly and interesting. A lot of clubs had prizes and drawings,
and free pens, key chains, stickers, water bottles, and frisbees. I found a few clubs I was
interested in, but the only one I've pursued is the College Park Tuning club, or car club.
They were very nice and inviting. I enjoy cars and racing so I spent a great deal of time searching
for this club. There were many cultural and ethnic clubs such as Korean or Green Student Unions.
Also a lot of recreational clubs were present, like a skydiving club, snowboarding,
and ultimate frisbee team. I enjoyed the first look fair very much and I look forward to it
next year so I can see an even greater number of clubs to join.
