I called the aobve number today, and got some more information for anyone who might be interested. The format will be round robin for qualifying, in groups of six or eight. I'm not sure exactly what scoring is used within the groups themselves, I got the idea it was scoring based on a best of three match (probably one point per game won.) Groups are determined by random drawing. After all games have been played, the top 6 ranked go on to the finals. Finals are double-elimination IFPA style. Prizes are paid out to the top eight ranked players/teams. Machines will be: Baywatch Frank Thomas' Big Hurt Theatre of Magic No Fear Dirty Harry The Shadow Friday night is a "Luck of the Draw" tournament. Eevryone interested pays five dollars and puts their names into a hat. Doubles teams are then drawn at random, and matches are played as outlined above. Entry is $5 and winner takes all. Saturday morning at 10 am begins the singles matches. As far as I know, there are no divisions. Saturday night is another Luck of the Draw tournament. Sunday morning at 11 am begins the doubles tournament. The Best Western America Inn mentioned above has double rooms for $65 a night. If anyone in the Chicago area is interested in going, I'm thinking on driving. I'll probably leave around Friday afternoon, maybe noonish. (Its a six to seven hour drive.) I'm also looking for a doubles partner!!! See some of you there I'm sure. It looks cool. I've never been to a pinball tournament, but it should be fun. I am getting nervous though, all of those new machines, and me with sweaty palms, I think I'll bring a towel to wipe off the machine after I play. I didn't really come here to ramble, I actually have something to say. If you are a reader of r.g.p., could you let all of us know at the tournament, by wearing something that denotes it. I have considered designing a t-shirt for myself that is specific to r.g.p. I've had a few ideas. I know I won't have them done for others by the tournament, but I may get one done. In the future though, are there people that are interested in having a t-shirt for r.g.p. I know that a.b.p.t. has one, but how about r.g.p.. It could be cool. I was thinking about a t-shirt with a r.g.p. logo on the breast pocket, with another design on back. I could make it available through a web page, and hey it may become cool. It might also be kind of cool to get a sponsor like let's say PAPA or something. It'd make for bigger and brighter t-shirts. Anyway, I'm rambling again. Has the t-shirt idea been done... if not, I'm stoked. -- ------------------------------------- don't pee on the sunflowers. please. they don't pea on you. thank you. andrew was here. ------------------------------------- x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x* From: jenk0025@maroon.tc.umn.edu (Andrew R Jenkins) Subject: Minneapolis Tournament info. Date: 5 Jun 1995 16:44:13 -0500 Talked to a lady working within the promotional factions. She was really friendly and offered a lot of good sentiments towards the tourney. I got the run down on the machines, I know someone posted the lineup, but I found out something rather interesting. I'venever been to a pinball tournament, so this sounds funny to me. 8 Baywatch 8 Big Hurt's (Frank Thomas' right?) 4 Theatre of Magic 4 Dirty Harry 4 Shadow 4 No Fear total of 32 machines. *grin* She also was telling me why they chose the machines. She was hoping to find machines that no one had seen before so the field would all be introduced to the machines at the same time. She was a little peaved when I told her that I knew of two ToM's, two Shadow's, and one NF. I also told her I knew one Dirty Harry was close, but I couldn't recall off hand where it was. I've almost got all of the hot spots mapped out, but these were off hand. It's sounds real fun though. The Luck of the Draw mini-tourneys will be, winners take all. They will also be raffling off machines and other prizes. She had said that there wasn't a Sunday night Luck of the Draw planned, but if people ask for it, they'll most likelly get it. She told me that someone from Papa contacted her expressing thei encouragement for the tournament. She also told me that they sent her their entire mailing list. Well, I'm gonna cruise. Time to fast in a zen sort of pinball way.... later. -- ------------------------------------- don't pee on the sunflowers. please. they don't pea on you. thank you. andrew was here. -------------------------------------
