First of all I want to say congratulations for taking the effort to actually read someone's Time Capsule. In fact, I just looked for the first time at one of the Time Capsules from the '06 Freshman about five minutes ago. So unless you are doing exactly what I did and are just about to write your own Time Capsule, then give yourself a pat on the back......alright that's enough, don't overdo it.
Anyways, back to the topic. Welcome to your freshman year of college. As you probably already know, college is a lot different than high school. Some find it easy to adapt to this new and strange environment of giant lecture halls, dining food (delicious for about three weeks), roommates, and wild parties every weekend (you don't have to go to all of them). Others, like myself, might find it a tiny bit harder to adapt to certain aspects like not having mom persuading/nagging you every minute to start that project due next week. Finally there are those that are just downright terrified of everything from their crazy psych. professor to buying their own textbooks; basically they just want their mommy (give them a hug). Hopefully, you fall into the first group of people.
I know you've heard it a million times, but I'll say it again just to piss you off: being in college is a lot of responsibility. Classes and the work that comes with them is enough to drive you crazy all by itself. But of course there is all those extra-curricular activites you will be involved in...right? Well, all those extra-curricular activities you SHOULD be involved in. Altogether, its enough to make you wonder why you even came to college in the first place (because otherwise you'd be working full time at Applebee's as the guy who cleans the bathroom after happy hour). So to try and help you out I've made a list of tips that I, at least, found important: 1. Go to class as much as possible even if you don't think it's worthwile. Iv'e missed many pop quizzes making that mistake. 2. Avoid the eggs at the diner unless you want to be hangin out in the bathroom for an hour. 3. Girls, do NOT go walking outside at night by yourself. Get a couple of friends to go with you or ask a guy--he'd love to go. 4. Guys, get your ass up and walk with that girl you lazy lazy person you. 5. Just like high school, don't procrastinate. It's hard not to, believe me I know, but it's always a good idea. 6. Use your dining points, even if it means buying three pies or an entire pizza on the last day. Don't let the school steal your money. 7. Get involved: clubs, intramural sports, societies, etc. 8. Make sure you take the time to get to know everyone on your floor if you live in a dorm. You make a lot of friends this way.
There could be a lot more I missed but I got ten minutes until class. Got to go.
