This short story is about the Dodo Bird. The Dodo Bird, also known as “ugly chickens”, is a large flightless bird which is one of the stupidest birds known to man. The main character, Paul Linberl, is a grad student who studies rare birds.
One day, he is searching for rare birds and an old lady says: “I haven’t seen one of those since I was a little girl.” She was pointing at a Dodo Bird. However, the bird was known to be extinct since the mid 1700’s. The old lady claims that she had seen the bird before when she was growing up in the early 1900’s in a farm in rural Mississippi. Paul immediately goes to Mississippi to investigate.
He successfully finds a farm with bones of the Dodo and the old lady claims that she had raised those birds when she was young. Anyways, it would turn out that the Dodo’s got killed off in order to feed a party, and Paul publishes a story called “The Dodo is Still Dead.”
Truth – The Dodo was a real bird that lived on the island Mauritius, and became extinct in the 1700’s.
Fiction – The Dodo was never known to exist in America, nor was it known to exist in the 1900’s.
