Grandma Kozen's Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Procedure

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Cream 3 cups sugar, 1 cup butter together.

  • Add 5 eggs 1 at a time.

  • Add 3 cups flour a little at a time.

  • Add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

  • Add 1 cup buttermilk.

  • Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.

  • Grease the pan with butter and add flour liberally.

  • Bake for 1 hour. If the cake still isn't done, bake for another 5-10 minutes.

  • Let cool for 15 minutes upside down on rack before you try to take it out of the pan or the cake will fall apart.

  • You may add frosting if you wish; I prefer to add a little powdered sugar to the top instead.
