In 1998, in response to repeated mass atrocities around the world, more than 120 countries united to form the International Criminal Court (ICC) the first permanent court created to prosecute perpetrators of crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide. The film follows dynamic Luis Moreno Ocampo and his team for 3 years across 4 continents as he issues arrest warrants for Lord's Resistance Army leaders in Uganda, puts Congolese warlords on trial, and charges Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir with genocide in Darfur, challenging the U.N. Security Council to arrest him. Building cases against genocidal criminals presents huge challenges, and the Prosecutor has a mandate but no police force. Life a deft thriller, "The Reckoning" keeps you on the edge of your seat with two riveting dramas the prosecution of unspeakable crimes and the ICC's fight for efficacy. Will the world ensure that justice prevails?

Photographs from the University Libraries' Collections
The Vietnam War was a polarizing force in American society from the time U.S. troops were deployed there in 1965 until they were withdrawn in 1973. College campuses often served as focal points of the peace movement, partly because the war directly affected all college-age men who were being drafted to serve on the battlefields of Vietnam. These dramatic photographs drawn from the Libraries' collections provide a rare glimpse of the anti-war protests on the College Park campus during the Vietnam War era.
This exhibit is part of the campus-wide Semester on Peace.

Event Type(s): Movie/Film/Video
Join SEE on Monday, Nov. 23 at 9 p.m. for a FREE screening of the worst movie ever made. Doors open 8:30 p.m. and it is in the Hoff Theatre of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union Center for Campus Life. "The Room" is a queasy combination of awkward sex scenes, wooden acting, terrible dialog and illogical continuity must be seen to be disbelieved. Tommy Wiseau wrote, directed, produced and stars in this atrocity, a ridiculously hysterical drama about infidelity among a group of friends in San Francisco. Like many terrible movies before it The Room would have probably died a quiet death, occasionally showing up on late-night cable, had fate not intervened. The Room became a cult film royale, regularly selling out.

Use reusable bags or a backpack at the grocery store to avoid using plastic bags. The U.S. uses 100 billion plastic shopping bags per year. That's roughly 333 bags per year per person -- nearly a bag per day! Some places even give you a discount for bringing your own bag.
